ripp.ly

In 2013, I designed ripp.ly, an innovative video recommendation platform that created a continuous, personalized content stream based on user interactions. The concept encouraged engagement through an interactive, drag-and-drop system where users created drops—favorited clips or keywords that shaped their recommendations. From there, the system generated ripples—suggested content with varying degrees of relevance—to keep the experience evolving and engaging.

Key features included:

  • Adaptive Curation: Content recommendations dynamically evolved based on user engagement, prioritizing highly relevant overlaps.
  • Seamless UX: I designed the interface to allow videos to flow naturally from one to the next across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • Social Integration: Users could connect social accounts to share content, follow friends’ ripples, and showcase their own ripp.ly experiences.
  • Scalability: My early vision for ripp.ly included expansion into widgets, browser plugins, mobile apps, and a broader range of content formats.
  • Playful Branding & Marketing: I positioned ripp.ly as a unique and interactive video discovery tool, blending innovative recommendations with a fluid and engaging user experience.

This concept was ahead of its time, pioneering elements of personalized content curation and discovery that are now widely used by platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. My work on ripp.ly was an early exploration into how engagement-driven design and AI-powered recommendations could shape the future of digital content consumption.
